Gut health – and human healthYakult is a fermented milk drink that contains a specific strain of lactic acid bacteria cultured by Dr Minoru Shirota, Yakult's founder, in 1930. When the scientist began studying medicine at Kyoto University in 1921, Japan was still developing economically, and many children were dying from infectious diseases.
